SC Star Citizen

Am i the only person who thinks its wrong to be charging people for the game itself and like $45 per ship on top of that? was one of the big reasons i dropped MWO like a hot potatoe. I mean i want to play a cool space game like anyone else, but the business model for this is starting to really irk me.

Don't get me wrong, I KS'd this game and have my 1 ship that comes with that and will happily join LOMS on release, but spending $100's of dollars on a fleet of virtual ships not for me! better not be a huge roadblock in game to earn a new ship.

Well a lot of the backers is still asking for CIG to keep putting up this ship sells. But do remember you don't have to buy more then the $45 starter ship packed to be able to play the game when it's released. And after release you only need to pay the xx price to buy the game *not buy the game + buy a ship*(if you didn't buy a ship packed before release)

But for why I keep buying ships, it's not that I need the ships but more that I like to put more money into the game to make it even better then now. The reason I have a sub to SC, want to se them make the best game ever. And I hope there will be some kind of voluntary sub when the game go gold, so I can keep making sure the game keep online for many years.

*Hope I make any sense*

The same for me. I think of the ships I buy and the subscription as being apart of investing in the development of a game that could break the mold of how games are develop in the future.
There is no reason to have to buy the ships. They are all available in game using in game money. The game plans to sell of 80.00 on release(last I heard) and that comes with a starter ship.
And that it all you have to buy to play.

No Tsasha, you're not. Investing hundreds of dollars for a game (that hasn't even been released) seems pretty incredible to me too. I do hope that the awesomeness of the released game will match the amounts people have spent.

You're right, Alziz.. But we are 600K+ that thinks it's a good thing to do, so yes we are a little group.
This is the only game I ever used that kind of money up front (still ca. 2 years before full game *release* is out). Used around $4-500 up til now, and I ave a feeling there will be used more than that. *I'm crazy, I know *

I've been going back and forth on this as well. It does look like an awesome game and development so far looks encouraging. It's amazing how much they've raised and I don't mind helping support the project. However, ships are certainly not cheap. I'm trying to decide whether I do want to melt down my current ship (Hornet) and get the Merchantman (I'd need to buy game package again too though), keep it (perhaps upgrade to the Anniversary version) and just buy the Merchantman outright or not do anything. I'd like to test the Arena Commander and the Merchantman won't really cut it so I'm not sure but $250 is a lot for a virtual ship, as you say.

Its mostly just becoming a point of principle to me at this time. I just dont feel you should have to pay $150 for a ship and a box cost on a game. I felt the same way in MWO when they wanted $35 for a mech. I grinded out and earned my mechs in game, but always felt at a disadvantage to people who fast tracked to the more powerful stuff with cash. At this point i am worried SC will just become over-hyped and a big let down, I am not willing to spend a cent more then the original KS amount i put in until the game proves me wrong. and even then no way in hell i am ever paying #35-45 let alone $150 for a ship. So if I can't be a fighter pilot striaght outta the box i am guessing my time will be short.

Each to his own and I'm ok which your choice. We are not ask you to pay more and SC is not forcing the purchases, it is not required (other than the initial game package). getting the ships and subscription is my choice and happy with it. After all I paid a subscription for City of Heroes for 5 years to support the game (even when some time I was not playing it for months at a time) because I believe in it. I know I'm paying for a promise but what I have seen so far in what is available , I believe the chance for the promise to be meet is high.
note: even thought I did not get the constellation in game, I did get the 10 inch model. It arrived today and looks good.

$63 mill letter from CEO https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14336-Letter-From-The-Chairman
We’ve added a lot of ships lately, and so we’re making the $64 million goal a fun one.

  • Pets – We have repair bots, we have fish… but we haven’t implemented a traditional pet system in Star Citizen yet. At $64 million, that changes. From Jones the Cat in Alien to the Battlestar Galactica’s Daggit, pets have a place onboard starships… and we want to give you that option in Star Citizen. Expect traditional terrestrial options, plus anything exotic we can dream up in the Star Citizen universe! (Those Torshu Grey crabs that keep escaping are just the start.) This stretch goal is in honor of Paddington, Strike Dog of the UEES Paul Steed. In one of our first videos Paddington helped us get to $4 million back in the initial campaign, and sadly passed away recently.
Pets in space

*sigh* Hello, my name is Miku and i'm a shipoholic, just brought the Banu Merchantman myself  ..... oh and the superhornet sidearm because i just KNOW i'll need it against you bastards

And here I was hoping I'd be able to contribute to the LoMS fleet but Miku goes off and gets a Banu Merchantmant too... Two massive trading ships might be excessive but the mention of using the MM as a Q-Ship is intriguing.

I have the hornet ghost, the herald , the 315p , freelancer MIS and the retaliator. I likely will buy the concept research platform when it comes out and may be a constellation before the game launches. So I'm right there with you Miku in that SCSA (Star Citizen Shipoholic Anymonous) support group
