SWL Major balance patch incoming

Right, so Nirvelle posted this on the official forums:

A Balancing Act - Open Beta on the Weekend of July 4th

What it will involve for the future is as of yet unknown, obviously. But I suppose they'll need all the feedback they can get. Now, I am not the person for that for multiple reasons, but I think it'd be nice if peeps could have a look at it on Testlive and contribute to making this patch a good thing as opposed to a fuming dumpster fire.

'balance' *cough* is usually only required if there is pvp, are they bringing proper pvp to SWL????????????!!
or as they mean it in LotRO, balance = nerf.....

Rebalance is changing the relationship between deeps, tank and healing roles - and it's true of PVE, which you would have understood if you'd read Nirvelles message in the link.

I'm going to state this again - the game is not just there to serve us veterans and endgamers, but also new players. If you recall that long ago, then you remember how many hours of delightful play and story there are there to discover. All this snark and negativity has just one result: to discourage new players and lessen their enjoyment of the game. It's not as if most of the snarkers are actually playing.

It's in LoMS description: FUN - CASUAL - HELPFUL

Let's all keep that in mind and act consequently :)

Well said, Bags. Agreed, lets stay positive about something that has the potental to bring a lot of joy. It's easy to tear something apart.

I'm genuinely shocked this is happening 3 years in after such a long drought in content. New zones and quests would be nice, but I suppose it's a bit less costly to produce new items and tweak combat calculations. No more dungeon/lair keys is a welcome change.

I'm very confused as to how the monetisation is going to be driven. I figured that keys were a capping factor and cash could be used to push beyond that, but their removal stumps me.

Personally, the 'simplification' of Talismans and the Anima system 3 years ago, ruined much of the game for me. But I know that I was in a minority there. However, I do wonder if this is an attempt to reintroduce more diversity into the combat system.
It will be interesting, at least for me to hear if this new system encourages specialisation again.

Old content would also be nice, like along the lines of events. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I wonder if maybe this means that Samhain will actually have "new"/TSW content this year.

Well, the Penthouse at least will be reintroduced, so hopefully down the line we'll get more stuff back, or at least MFA/MFB.
I'd really love to see the Spooky Stories and Seven Silences back, but the Rider can stay in TSW archives until they found a way not to make it a mess.

The only thing we know so far is that Nirvelle said he would love to get seven silences back. For MFA/MFB there is a much smaller probability as it would have to be reinvented completely.
We recently brought the matter of adding the old dungeons / missing elite versions of already in game dungeons up again.
The issue is, that they need to be redone completely. He also said that the missing dungeons (like Hell Fallen or Slaughterhouse) were the most buggy ones in TSW. And fixing old bugs is a BIG pain.
But you never know... we didn't expect a massive rebalance nor did we expect Penthouse coming back.
Right now the team is on vacation and will continue the work on the balance patch after that. No release dates so far. So i wouldn't get my hopes up too far that they can squeeze time for additional content in before Samhain.
