TSW Fast 18's - 24's (only 10.5.5 need apply) LFG looneys...sigh

I was talking to my cabal mates pyre and madlyric the other day in teamspeak. My toon is slowly getting geared. Currently I have a mix of 10.4's and a couple of 10.2 weapons. All my glyphs except one are 10.0 epics. The one that isn't is 10.1 epic. I found out yesterday that I need to get all talismans maxxed first to 10.4 before upgrading my glyphs. Everything I have on now (except the weapons) are customs.

I usually run with my cabal mates when I can to do 18's and 24's on nightmare runs, but am noticing a trend in LFG and with many puggers in the game. They want you to link your gear, then your Karma Curio and if your Glyphs are not 10.4 or 10.5 they tell you your not geared enough for a nightmare run. They don't care if your in all purples 10.4s you have to have glyphs that are 10.4 or they aren't going to let you party with them. In fact here is a thread on this very subject on the Secret World forums: http://forums.thesecretworld.com/showthread.php?t=78502 Is this the new "elitist" thing now?

I haven't learned everythiing in this game, and maybe not all "nooks and crannies" but for the most part I would say I don't have a lot of problems running with groups who are like me in a mix of 10.4 and 10.2's and with only 10.0 Glyphs being used. I have found that it is really all about knowing the boss fight, and paying attention. But even if you are paying attention and doing all the right things good old game lag can mess your group up. Sometimes you get a glitched out boss that can either cause your group to succeed or fail. So I am working as fast as I can to get completely geared out. It takes time though. I wanted to know what The League of Monster Slayers had to say about the general society of the Secret World and the LFG nonsense on wanting only 10.5.5 gear to run nightmares! =)

Been like this for months..
That's why i'm playing something else...
Once you have your 1st full set of gear you are fine, i was saving to buy tanking gear, due to lack of tanks in general.
I decided that, if I had to buy a full set of dps gear 1st, with still no guarentee of consistant runs due to tank/healer shortages, then my time would be better spent elseware....
Roll on June!

This elitism not a new thing, sadly.

Even at launch, there were people in the LFG channel asking for ridiculous stats. And of course, other things they want: 4200 attack rating, 100% wheel unlocked, karma curio, 10.5.5, etc.

I ignore this. One of the reasons I joined the cabal (and like it so) is that we don't ask for these crazy things. We try very hard to remain elitist free and keep the LFG nonsense out the chat channel.

Yea this has been the same for ages, but I just ignore it. I use #LOMSGlobal or #noobmares chat channels to get groups these days and neither will insist that you have .4/.4 gear (because you simply don't need it). LOMS has a relaxed approach and gives everyone the opportunity to learn.

One thing I would say is that I think you want to shoot for getting glyphs upgraded before you get talismans all the way to .4 because you gain more from high glyph stats compared to the extra AR over the base customs. This is the case, as far as I thought, for DPS tho may be slight differences for heal or tank. I did get a major HP talisman to .4 as a tank just to give me enough of an HP buffer but otherwise higher block, hit and pen glyph stats were far more useful. I'm sure someone will correct me if this is an outdated view :)

Yeah. Don't sweat it. Every game has it's elitist jerks, sadly.

You're lucky enough to have found a very awesome cabal that doesn't care about that stuff. it's more important here that you either know the fights or be willing to learn the fights.

Also, #Noobmares is full for generally awesome people (founded by a LoMSer). They don't do that .4.4/.5 talk there either.

If you want to deal with PUGs or LFG, usually "relaxed" is code for "we're not gonna be jerks about this."

@Coyaga -- Fortunately, Beecher has been training more tanks. (Including myself and Schwim!) So we now have a lot more members being cross-trained on roles.

I don't even look in LFG any more. Cabal or Noobmares have been perfectly fine for me, and even when I'm all grown up with super awesome gear, I'll probably still hang around noobmares to help people get to the same level. Last night I was in a noobmares group that cleared 24's in an hour, I thought that was perfectly acceptable. We didn't bother with MT however, the 1bb wasn't worth the repair bills and we felt it would have slowed us down.

However, it's good to know that you can get good groups in noobmares.

Gear does not maketh the toon, experience and mindset does. Looking for end game stats either means one of two things:

1. The leader has limited time and wants a fast run.
2. The group will be full of jerks who believe the more shiny things, the better :/

Just ask in channel and you'll get a good group and probably gave a good laugh along the way.

Agree on whats been said so far. I have been in the cabal for 18 months now and in that time i have only seen one "Jerk" asking for elilitist stuff and they got booted PDQ.
This is a great Cabal and all of you are willing to help each other out, like me, ok i die a lot in NMs but im learning fast now and i'm only dieing when its a lag spike or the game goes wonky on us, so i must be getting better.
An example of this in a LFG situation, if you die like 3 times in a run, i have heard that some LFG NM's was kicking the player out. I have Never heard of that happening in LOMs :) You might be asked to leave if your not geared enough or not producing enough DPS but thats only fair on the others in the group, as they are dragging you through the situation.
Do not take this personally if this happens to you, ask for someone to help you overcome that situation, I did and I can now pop 1 to 1.4 K DPS now and that helps a lot with your team at the time that its needed.

Sidetrack of the thread.
Sofie you should upgrade the glyphs first, then the talismans. With the diminishing returns on both attack and heal rating the glyphs make a much much larger difference.

Back on track, i like noobmares. Great channel.
