Comcast

So, I can get a better deal with Comcast then I can on my current internet provider, FiOS. Does anyone have any experience with Comcast and online gaming? What is the latency like? Does it periodically drop you? Would hate to be doing a raid or dungeon and have an issue.

Thanks.

I think it will depend on where you are. When I had Comcast at our old apartment, it was amazing but I think that is mostly because they had to compete with Verizon and other providers in the area. There was no cap but I think it was like a yearly contract. I know others don't have as good of an experience with Comcast, though. Also, I think there was technically a cap on our service but that the the cap was "temporarily" not in-effect when I looked at the bill, it was never placed into effect while we had it for a couple years, though. Only real downside was when we moved and couldn't continue using Comcast where we moved too and it was a bit of a hassle to end the service, but I think you get that with any ISP/cable provider. Never had a problem with online gaming when I had Comcast, I always make a point to have a wired connection to my PC for internet, though, so I can't really speak about how the Wifi with the Comcast equipment was.

Anyway, I've had three providers in the three places I've lived with my wife, Comcast was the best price and the best service we've had; but, like I said, I think that is mainly down to the fact that Comcast had to compete in our area since the other ISPs I've had to use basically had monopolies in the areas we were living in.

afaik the most important thing to look at with cable internet is how far away you are from the street cabinet, unless ofc you are fth, then it doesn't matter.
if comcast are using the same cables you use currently (ie they aren't installing any new cables) & it's just a change of bill payee then it will be exactly the same.

As far as I know, there is at least one other service provider, if not more, in the area so there is some competition for customers.

They shouldn't be installing any new cables, nothing like that happened when we switched to FiOS back in 2012.
