ESO ESO

Alright since the NDA has been lifted I can share my opinions, likes and dislikes...etc...

I'll start out by saying that initially I was VERY critical of ESO. I didn't feel like it played like a MMO should and felt it was kind of slow moving. With that in mind I went back to play WoW with my daughter some and realized that I really loathed the normal MMO community. TSW has always been a blessing as far as its community goes in my opinion, and ESO seemed to have a pleasant community as well so I decided to give it another go during beta weekend. I'm very glad that I did as I have come to really love the game.

There is something really important to keep in mind. While this is an Elder Scrolls world there are some things lacking, like you can't walk up to a table and steal everything off of it for the hell of it. Obviously some things needed to be scaled back because this is an online title but you can still search urns, chests, jugs and everything of that sort. The loot inside will respawn randomly after someone has gotten it, meaning it is open world loot not locked to anyone. Initially I found that sort of annoying because I was coming across an immense number of empty items but after awhile I stopped caring since I was running into a healthy amount that I was able to loot before anyone else.

The story was a bit slow to start as you are a prisoner in Coldharbor and it focuses on a plan to escape along with The Prophet (I have no idea what his full name is so far). The game eases you into things pretty well although frankly if you have ever played an Elder Scrolls title before then you will have no issues picking this one up. Now I was playing as a member of the Daggerfall Covenant and after getting beyond the prison and back to Tamriel I was given a mission to recruit some people for this pirate captain and then from there left to my own devices. The game is interesting in that it will place an objective marker for a given quest and then leave you to it to go explore and find your way there. Along the way you will manage to find new quests, sky shards and everything in-between. The world itself is beautiful and I actually liked exploring, so in my opinion this was done well as far as how questing is setup.

I didn't get a chance to do pvp in beta but I have a video, and the majority of articles online about ESO PvP have been very positive

I'm gonna be honest, I have a ton to say about my beta impressions so I will be back later to update this, but my TL;DR version is as follows:

The Good - Great story, smooth questing, pvp seems to have gotten everything right, everything about the game feels immersive once you get going

The Bad - Slow getting started, some of the animations are kind of "off", questing can be a little confusing and easy to get lost unless you understand how to use the objective markers

The only thing I liked about the beta is one of the undead or whatever dudes in the intro quest is voiced by John Cleese.

Not lost, exploring! ;)
Combat is a bit clunky, ranged spells seem fine, but melee combat seems very kinda wooly. Camera doesn't help as turning to face a mob doesn't flow very well.
Dodging is a bit odd too as sometimes u seem to dodge the opposite way to the way you want or think you are going to go..
This could just be familiarity/practice tho..

It felt familiar tho, like an old jumper you can never get rid of, I played Morrowind to death, Oblivion was a let down & not played Skyrim, but there was stuff i remembered...
Story was stunning... Gave you choices.. made me laugh in places & sad in others..
Can't wait to try more!

Whether it will be a long term prospect tho... not sure... depends how it develops as you lvl & what they have planned for endgame...

This could probably have a thread of it's own..
If you pre-order you can play any race in any Alliance..
Discuss..

Some ppl think it's against the lore... not really..
You don't have to play outside of your racial alliance...
From a personal point of view i think 'turncoats' will get an extra hard time in pvp!

It adds another dimension & even more options for serious Altoholics...

PvP is the one thing in beta that I didn't get a chance to play with and I had heard that it was absolutely outstanding so I'm looking forward to try it once it goes live.

I've been looking for a MMO that offers a really solid story experience forever now and I think ESO is finally that game. I have really high hopes that they hold it together when it comes to what is at the cap. As of right now I know the following are confirmed for at 50:

-Veteran Dungeons
-New Game + and New Game ++ (what this does is allow players from once Alliance to unlock and play thru the story of the next Alliance and then the final Allliance after that. Bethesda has really emphasized that this will open up the entire game world to a single character and add tons of play value)
-Cyrodiil PvP
-Adventure Zones (high end outdoor raids)

Truly dreadful, with the worse intro experience I've experienced in an MMO and I've played practically every MMO out there on release.

Tired, stale and worn out, and appears to have been created in response to WoW from 10 years ago.

It will be free to play within the year maximum.

The + & ++ seems to just be playing thru the area u would on a different faction alt. Will need the promise of new content (not vapourware...) i hope the next DLC is already in production... to get my sub..

I agree with you 110%, I just thought the whole + and ++ idea was cool because it eliminates alts.

Now if people plow thru all that and there isn't substantial stuff to do at the cap...well, that won't be good. Cyrodiil looks fun, but they need more than just that and the Vet dungeons to keep a large portion of players interest.

On a side note I really wish there was a multiplayer mode for Skyrim so we could all just play that together lol

ESO was started before Skyrim, surely the land area in ESO is much much bigger??

Is there scope to add new landmass?
not sure how much of the area the elder scolls series covers has been included.
If you look at AoC only a tiny part of potential areas have been used so far.

I really wish I had answers for you but I don't. I like ESO, but my greatest fear is that we will get to the cap and then will see players leaving because there isn't content in place to sustain them. SWToR comes to mind when I think of ESO. Massive mega budget, tons of voice acting, great story...and then it seemed to trail off when it came to things for players to do at the cap. If I have learned one very important lesson during my MMO playing its that players enjoy high end content whether it be dungeons, raids or anything similar. I hope that Cyrodiil is enough to keep most of the players entertained enough to keep them subbed.

New Beta invite just plopped into my inbox!!!
